Antibodies against citrullinated proteins in relation to periodontitis with or without rheumatoid arthritis: a cross-sectional study

چکیده
Abstract Background Previous studies have reported conflicting findings between serum anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) levels in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) participants with and without periodontitis (Pd). This study aimed to analyse possible correlations ACPA clinical parameters Pd RA participants. Methods Full mouth periodontal examination (probing pocket depth, attachment levels, gingival bleeding index, visual plaque index) was conducted samples obtained from 80 comprising RA, Pd, both (RAPd) healthy individuals (HC). Erythrocyte sedimentation rates (ESR) inflamed surface area (PISA) were obtained. Serum analysed for quantification using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results Median (IU/mL) of (interquartile range, IQR) RAPd, HC groups 118.58(274.51), 102.02(252.89), 78.48(132.6) 51.67(91.31) respectively. significantly higher RAPd as compared group ( p < 0.05). However, any the not correlated within respective groups. Conclusions At individual level, amount seem an increasing trend diseased condition order > HC. lack significant correlation warrants further investigate causal link such a trend. Further involving more inflammatory biomarkers might be useful establish development progression or vice versa.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease of unknown etiology, characterized by chronic joint inflammation that often leads to joint destruction. Diagnosis of RA is currently based on the revised classification criteria of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR); however, it remains imprecise, especially early in the course of disease. Rheumatoid factor (RF) has been widely ...
متن کاملRheumatoid factor isotypes in relation to antibodies against citrullinated peptides and carbamylated proteins before the onset of rheumatoid arthritis.
BACKGROUND The presence of rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-carbamylated protein antibodies (anti-CarP) and antibodies against citrullinated protein and peptides (ACPA) precedes the onset of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by several years. Relationships between the development of these antibodies are not obvious. METHODS Three isotypes [immunoglobulin A (IgA), IgG and IgM) of RF were analy...

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease of multifactorial etiology characterized by inflammation of the joints and presence of autoantibodies directed against multiple autoantigens. Recently the study of the anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACP) has acquired great interest due to its high specificity and sensitivity for diagnosis, in addition to which it has shown to be a predictor ...

Citrullinated proteins that are produced by enzymatic deimination of arginine residues in proteins by peptidylarginine deiminases (PADIs) are of particular interest in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). First, peptidylarginine deiminase type 4 (PADI4) gene, which codes one of the PADI enzyme isotypes, has a genetic variant that increases susceptibility to RA. The RA-susceptible vari...
متن کاملEnvironmental risk factors differ between rheumatoid arthritis with and without auto-antibodies against cyclic citrullinated peptides
The aim of this study was to evaluate new and previously hypothesised non-genetic risk factors for serologic subtypes of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) defined by the presence or absence of auto-antibodies to cyclic citrullinated peptides (CCP). In a national case-control study, we included 515 patients recently diagnosed with RA according to the American College of Rheumatology 1987 classification ...
